Pie Baking Contest

April 15th at 11am in the Old Cooper Review Building (50 East side Square)

Categories – Any dessert pie are welcome!! Crust may be homemade or store bought

Homemade Pie Contest Rules

a) This contest is open to bakers of all ages!

b) Pies must be entered in the name of the person who made it.

c) Each Contestant may enter only 1 pie.

d) Each Pie must be made from scratch (crust excluded) and based in a 9” – 10” throw away pie plate/pan. You may use a metal or glass pan but you are responsible for picking up your pan the following week. The DCCC will not be held responsible for the loss of damage of any pan entered.

Enter a Pie

a) Bring your Pie to the old Cooper Review building on the east side of the square between 10am-11am on April 15th.

At this time your pie will be given an entry number, maintaining confidentiality of the bakers.

b) Fill out the registration form.

i. Acknowledge that the entered pies become the property of the DCCC and that you do not get your pie back.

ii. If you win you give your permission to have your photo taken during the announcement ceremony and have it used for Pie Contest and Festival promotional materials.

c) A copy of your pie recipe, on a 3×5 card or 8×11 paper, with a list of ingredients must be provided with the recipe name, contestant name and phone number, at time of drop off.

d) All contest entrants will receive a ribbon.

Judging

a) Judging will start at 11:15am. Judges will not be present at the contest tent while pies are delivered to ensure confidentiality of the bakers.

b) Judging area will be “off limits” to all but Judges and Pie Contest Committee members.

c) Minimum of three Judges

d) Criteria – Each pie will be judged on the following: Overall appearance, filling (consistency, doneness, moistness, flavor), Flavor of pie, and creativity

e) Scoring

i. Each judge assigns a numerical value in each criteria category, without consultation with the other judges.

ii. The pie receiving the highest total numerical value is the winner. The Pie Contest Committee will tally the judging sheets.

iii. In the case of a tie, the judges will judge those pies again.

iv. The decision of the judges is final.

a) Winners will be announced after the judging is complete on the main stage.

Deposition of Pies – all pies become the property of the Delta County Chamber of Commerce County Fair.
